No more Android envy for me!

I got my Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant today!
Normally I wouldn't do this...this isn't really a technology based blog,
but give me a break I haven't had a phone for a month, I'm so excited!
I feel connected to the world again, hahah :D

Any good android apps anyone can suggest?
Crafting, photo, baking/cooking, or otherwise?

Things To Try Tuesday:

One: Tufted Headboard
I have been really into furniture with tufting lately. Its just a really good way to make a simple piece look really nice and give it a little bit of a vintage feel. When I get some time I'd really like to tackle the project of making a tufted headboard. If I can find 3 decent sized rectangular frames I might just make panel ones--which will save time & money, not to mention, it will probably look pretty adorable (especially with assorted old buttons instead of the everyday fabric covered buttons you usually see).

Two: Rootbeer Float Cupcakes
These are adorable..and they look absolutely delicious. This recipe from Confessions of a Cookbook Queen calls for white cake mix (box or from scratch) mixed with rootbeer only. I've heard that you can add a can of soda to any cake mix (instead of milk, eggs, etc) before, which is amazinggg because it also makes your recipe vegan (besides the frosting). I can't wait to make these, the kitchen is going to smell so yummy!

Three: Log buttons
This is the cutest idea. I want to make some immediately! they might even be cute for tufting throw pillows. Ahhh so many possibilities!

Four: Upcycled Toilet Paper Roll Wall Art
I love upcycling household materials. These normally just get thrown away anyway, so why not? Plus there are so many options--you could even paint them to add a pop of color to bare walls!

Five: Nine hole buttons
I've never really worked with fimo clay before, but these are just too cute not to try. I love that you can thread letters through them and spell out words, names and phrases on the craft of your choice.

 Six: Felt Throw pillows
I'm definitely excited to start making some awesome throw pillows for my apartment. These are from Modernality on Etsy, she makes some really cute pacman pillows that I absolutely love! I want to make or buy (depending on available time) simple solid throw pillow covers in coordinating colors and add my own felt designs to them...I'm thinking....mustaches? hedgehogs? owls? leaves? cameras? dandelions?
Oh goodness, too many cute options!

I'm going to have to MAKE time because these ideas are just too cute not to give a try. I can't wait!

If there is a will, there is a way...

I have found it. The perfect futon for our apartment living room. Its the Ikea Beddinge Series with this beautiful cover in the most amazing green upholstery fabric. It will match with the chair (that I mentioned before) and it folds out into a full size bed! (Perfect for when we have guests or just want to lounge out and cuddle while watching a movie)
The only thing is the cover is discontinued--and somehow I found someone on CL with one for sale--but its three hours away. After a ton of coordinating and planning falling though, I think my awesome friend Mars might be coming with me (along with her big van) on a futon adventure tomorrow...*fingers crossed*

8/23/10 UPDATE: I ended up nabbing the futon with a dark grey cover for 75 bucks! and get this...found this exact color discontinued slipcover (normally retails at $130) for $10 in the town my aunt lives in. So excited!

Six goals to keep in mind (before 2011)...

These are things I want to accomplish or at least make good headway on before 2011. As I've said before, I make lists for everything. Its just sort of a way to organize my thoughts and remind me to stay on track. I feel like if I put these up they might stick in my head throughout the year, so here we go:

One:
Collect furniture, decor, and supplies for our apartment.
Shop the thrift stores, yard sales, and CL
for deals and good vintage finds.
(I've already begun this process, but I want to be prepared)

Two:
Take more photos of day-to-day life.
Make sure to capture the things that I love
and that make me happy.
Keep in mind that this is the time of my life
I will look back on fondly
and it will be wonderful to have it documented.
(Also, I'd like to possibly get a nicer camera,
and maybe another instant to help the process along ;)

Three:
Experiment with and learn more about baking.
Hone my cupcake skills
(specifically practice frosting techniques,
vegan, and healthy recipes)
Cook my way through the cupcake cookbooks I have
and learn by trial and error.
Also, come up with my own recipes and variations.
Put together a recipe book or box.

Four:
Find time to study for BOTH
college
and
my craft(s)
This way I will be learning and practicing both
the creative and business sides
of what it takes to start the kind of business
I hope to one day own.

Five:
Start an idea board
Cork/chalk board or bubbles where I can post:
a) things that inspire me and make me want to do something.
b) ideas I have for crafts, recipes, decor, projects, etc.

Six:
Find time to get out with the people I love
travel
take day trips
explore
go to the park
go on long drives
whatever it may be...make some memories <3

So, maybe it wasn't the best idea I've ever had...

...to work out for 3 hours the night before Warped Tour but I found a few really good workouts and I was stuck in the gym waiting for Andrew to finish work---what do you expect? If you're looking for a good one, try this: Target Every Trouble Zone in 3 Moves

Even though I will most likely be sore...and it will probably reach triple digit temps...and there will definitely be a lot of ridiculousness there...I am still looking forward to tomorrow. How could you not? Its bunch of bands--a few of my favorites, my boyfriend (who got to reschedule work for it!), and my friend and his band The Paper Melody who got voted to play there this year!
Either way: I'm putting together my survival guide...

Score!

Just got this comfy vintage chair in one of my favorite colors for our apartment...for FREE :D
Our friends had it in their garage because she bought it and he said "no, not in my house", hahah.

Off to go to sushi with my Grammie, then thrifting and froyo with the girls :)
Hopefully I find some treasure!

Occupational Hazard

I just cannot resist pictures of adorable little ones,
these are KILLIN me!

Why not, right?

I've never been much for blogging, but recently I've been thinking about the things that inspire me to do the things I love. I figure this would be a wonderful outlet to express and organize these things so that I can get them out and hopefully turn them into reality. I constantly find photos and things on the internet that spark an urge to create. Crafting, cooking, baking, painting, decorating, writing---these are the things I'll most likely have on my mind. However you might see (if I'm really speaking to anyone here, hehe) posts about  random thoughts, topics, and most definitely about the people I love :)

As for today, the boyfriend is working the late shift and I'm home watching a marathon of Weeds (can't wait for the new season!). This is my last week off before I have to get back to my job as a nanny, so I want to make the best of it. These are a few things I want to try to do this week:

1.Get the rest of my back tattoo finished.

2. Pull out my supplies and try my hand at painting.

3.Go thrifting and find some cute summer dresses and maybe a few finds for our apartment.

4. Get some girl time in and go to frozen yogurt at the new shop called "Top This" in downtown Chico.

5. Possibly find someone to go see ETID with me on Thursday, since my man will be working :(

6. Do something amazing with Andrew this weekend before our work schedules force us not to see eachother often for awhile :(((.....Camping? Amusement park? Water park? Roadtrip?

Well, Andrew should be home from work soon with my gigantic cup of crunch ice---so stoked ;oP Back to the marathon...
Night night!
